Foreign minds.
She doesn't understand me when I speak because I take the words she knows and give them new meaning to describe how my heart is beating, how my mind is turning. They've never meant anything else to me, but she is lost and I don't know what else to say.
When I was younger, car rides with my mother were my gateway to the meaning of life. As the trees few past she told me how it felt to have your heart break to let someone destroy it, destroy you. I was privileged, she said, because she grew up alone, with a fairy take stepmom and a coked out dad, I never knew pain the way she did, I never had to. She would pat my leg enough to make me wince, but it was never a time to complain. Nothing could ever top her stories.
It was nine days before my sixteenth birthday when the doctors told her that there was no cure, that this was just how I would be from now on, that I would live this way, in a pain she doesn't understand, with words she doesn't know. There are medications, of course, they said,

My piece "I lead a quiet rebellion." was published in the January issue of TeenInk.

If you're unfamiliar with TeenInk, it's a publication for writers by writers than runs solely on submissions by its readers. Published as "My Quiet Rebellion," my piece was featured on the cover and had a prominent spot in the Non-Fiction section of the magazine. It nearly had a page dedicated to it, but since a bit of my work was edited out, it shares a page with an article talking about how to buy a plunger. Uh. I suppose I can't complain, but I saw that and laughed about it hard.

I submitted a few things to TeenInk just to see what could happen and I never thought that anything would come of it. It's pretty surreal.

I haven't been on deviantart for a long time (hence the childish username and horrid art) but i'm glad i remembered my ogin info because when we read the piece you wrote that was published in TeenInk magazine for English class, I decided to go and read the other writing you'd posted on TeenInk and I fell in love with your writing. I'm so glad i found you on here, and I just wanted to let you know how much i love all of your writing, and that you're the only reason i made a TeenInk (or logged back into Deviantart, for that matter)

Thank you for this message. I've saved this in my inbox for quite some time and whenever I come back to deviantART, mostly to clear my messages, I read over it. I appreciate the support immensely.
